The iconic red windmill sails of Paris’s Moulin Rouge cabaret are spinning once again.

To celebrate their restoration, thirty-two dancers, adorned in vibrant red feathered costumes, performed in front of the legendary venue on Thursday evening.

These sails, a cherished symbol of Paris’s bohemian spirit, dramatically collapsed on April 25, 2024, immediately following a performance.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m., after the final show of the night had concluded and the audience had departed the historic cabaret, celebrated for its spectacular productions and can-can dancers.

Moulin Rouge’s director, Jean-Victor Clerico, informed French media at the time that a “technical problem” was the cause of the windmill’s sails and a portion of the cabaret’s illuminated sign crashing to the ground.

Before their unexpected fall over a year ago, the Moulin Rouge’s sails had been a rotating fixture since 1889.

Although the sails were reinstalled by last July in time for the Paris Olympics, they remained stationary until their grand return on Thursday evening.
