Efforts are ongoing to establish a new multi-denominational cemetery in Letterkenny as the town’s existing cemeteries are nearing full capacity.

The issue has resurfaced as blessing of graves services are held this month.

Letterkenny-Milford Mayor, Cllr Ciaran Brogan, stated: “We are highly committed to addressing the graveyard situation. It’s crucial to emphasize that the council is fully dedicated to providing a multi-denominational graveyard.”

In April, the council requested expressions of interest from landowners in the Letterkenny region who possess land suitable for developing a municipal cemetery. These submissions are currently under review, and a report is expected to be presented to councillors in September.

The project has been underway since 2020.

Graveyard Services will be held at Leck this Sunday, July 13th, commencing at 3 pm at Old Leck Graveyard and at 4 pm at New Leck.

Traffic management will be in place, and those who are able are encouraged to walk.
