Keane has frequented Cork in recent years for various reasons.

He has been involved in charitable endeavors with Marymount Hospice and Cork Penny Dinners, and even surprised a dedicated Manchester United fan at the Mercy Hospital in May.

A topic likely to be discussed at the Marquee is the forthcoming Saipan film.

The film stars Éanna Hardwicke as Keane in a dramatization of the infamous incident at the 2002 World Cup. The film will depict Keane’s departure from the squad following a dispute with then-Ireland manager Mick McCarthy (played by Steve Coogan).

Doyle is no stranger to Keane, having collaborated on the footballer’s second autobiography, The Second Half, in 2014.

Doyle spoke to the Irish Examiner last year about working on the book: “My father loved Roy. I remember Roy telling me about the early days when he was managing Sunderland, and the kit man was in charge of the music — he put on Abba’s Greatest Hits and he said Roy just watched his team running out on the pitch while listening to ‘Dancing Queen’.

“The way Roy told it, I was listening to it again and again, tears were coming out of me, it was just so funny.”
