US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have scheduled a phone call for Thursday.
This will be the sixth publicly acknowledged conversation between the two leaders since Mr. Trump’s return to the White House earlier this year.
Neither president has released specific details regarding the call’s agenda.
Their last publicly disclosed call took place on June 14, the day following Israel’s attack on Iran.
The resumption of dialogue suggests a mutual interest in improving US-Russian relations, which have suffered significantly due to the conflict in Ukraine and reached their lowest point since the Cold War.
Thursday’s call coincides with the Pentagon’s announcement that it is temporarily halting some weapons shipments to Ukraine pending a global review of US military stockpiles.
The paused shipments to Ukraine include air defense missiles, precision-guided artillery, and other military equipment.
Details regarding the specific weapons involved in the paused deliveries were confirmed by a US official and a former national security official familiar with the situation.
On Tuesday, Mr. Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron held their first direct telephone conversation in nearly three years.
