Three men taken to hospital after ‘violent disorder’ incidents in Limerick

Three men were hospitalized following reports of “violent disorder” and “criminal damage” in Limerick.

The disturbances took place on Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, around 11:50 PM on Saturday evening.

A Garda statement indicated that a vehicle was damaged during the incident. The three injured men were transported to University Hospital Limerick; their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Gardaí are currently investigating the events.

Sources suggest this incident is connected to an ongoing feud between rival factions in the Ballinacurra Weston area.

In May, a drive-by shooting targeted three homes. In early June, two young men were arrested in connection with the shooting, and controlled substances with an estimated street value exceeding €28,000 were confiscated from a residence.

This incident occurs after Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan recently addressed the increasing problems with criminal gangs in Limerick within the Dáil. He specifically referenced the continuing feud in Ballinacurra Weston and the associated escalating violence.

Mr. Quinlivan previously stated to the Irish Examiner: “There’s an ongoing feud in the Ballinacurra Weston area, which diverts resources from the King’s Island area. Other areas need attention at the moment because of ongoing issues on the back of drug dealing, particularly crack cocaine.”
