A warning has been issued to swimmers after a potentially hazardous Lion’s Mane jellyfish was discovered on the shore at Portsalon last night.
Donegal Daily reader Ann Marie Ryan captured the image above, showing the jellyfish which was found stranded around 8pm last night.
With favorable weather forecasted for at least the next three days, beachgoers are urged to exercise increased caution while swimming.
This species has been observed on Donegal beaches multiple times in recent years.
Lion’s Mane jellyfish are characterized by their considerable size and stinging capability.
Though generally not deadly, their stings can result in pain, skin irritation, and, less frequently, more serious symptoms such as nausea, perspiration, and muscle spasms.
