After two decades of painting professionally abroad, Letterkenny’s own Sinead Gallagher is returning to Donegal to present her inaugural solo exhibition in the county.

The abstract expressionist painting exhibition, titled ‘Home Shores,’ will be held this September at the historic Lifford Old Courthouse.

This event marks a significant milestone for Sinead, who has spent over 20 years living and working in Germany and North America. She recently settled in Kilcar with her husband, filmmaker and poet Marc Littler.

Sinead explains: “My work draws inspiration from Donegal’s rugged Atlantic coastline, as well as the urban landscapes of Berlin and Frankfurt. It reflects a dialogue between place and feeling. Colour is pivotal to my process; it often takes precedence, setting the mood and guiding the composition.”

“My aim is to create paintings that evoke atmosphere and mood through layered shapes and subtle allusions to the natural world, inviting viewers to connect with their personal memories and sensory experiences.”

Sinead’s career has spanned across Europe and North America, including over 40 solo and group exhibitions in Germany and Switzerland. Her artwork has been featured in international art publications, on album covers, and is held in private collections throughout North America, Europe, and Ireland.

In Germany, she also manages her own artist studio and exhibition space near Frankfurt, where she has curated more than 20 exhibitions.

Since her return to Donegal in 2022, she has established a second artist studio in Kilcar and assumed the role of Assistant Director for the newly established Kilcar International Film Festival (KIFF), scheduled to return in February 2026.

Her upcoming exhibition, Home Shores, at the Lifford Courthouse will open on Sunday, September 7th, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, with a closing event scheduled for Sunday, September 28th, also from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

Regular opening hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Private viewings can be arranged by contacting gallagher.fineart@gmail.com.

Sinead expresses her gratitude to Jacqui Devenney Reed, Gillian Graham & Darren Gallagher at the Lifford Courthouse for their support and enthusiasm in bringing the exhibition to fruition.
