Six new high-power electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are planned for Donegal, as part of a nationwide initiative to expand EV infrastructure.

Nearly €8 million has been allocated to provide grants for charging infrastructure at these locations, with the chargers expected to be operational by the end of the year.

The planned Donegal charging station locations are:

    • Robert Kee, Circle K, Laghey (N15)
    • Centra Ballyshannon Service Station (N15)
    • Kavanagh’s SuperValu Ballybofey (N13)
    • Weev Charging Ltd, WN504, Burt (N13)
    • Joseph Rafferty Oil Ltd, Circle K, Bridge End (N13)
    • McGettigans Applegreen, Lifford Service Station (N15)

This announcement supports the government’s strategy to establish a dependable charging network nationwide, ensuring charging stations are no more than 60km apart.

Funding for these charging stations comes from the Light Duty Vehicle (LDV) program, managed by Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI) and implemented by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

“This is a significantly positive step for Donegal,” stated Senator Nikki Bradley. “We are witnessing a substantial investment in the future of rural Ireland, providing the infrastructure to support clean transport, tourism, and meet the needs of local residents and businesses.”
