A remarkable 227 women from County Donegal participated in the sold-out 2025 Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin this June Bank Holiday Sunday.

This year marked the 43rd anniversary of the iconic event, which drew 28,000 women from across Ireland and beyond, uniting them in the world’s largest all-female race.

Grace Richardson of Kilkenny City Harriers secured first place with an impressive time of 34 minutes and 17 seconds.

Participants of all ages, fitness levels, and backgrounds embraced the 2025 theme, “Championing Womankind,” which celebrated the strength, resilience, and mutual support inherent in women’s journeys. The runners included first-timers, experienced athletes, and a dedicated group who have participated every year since the race’s inception in 1983. The youngest participant was 14 years old, and the oldest, at 89, exemplified the event’s enduring legacy and spirit.

Adding to the energy, DJ Mark McCabe made a surprise appearance, performing his hit “Maniac 2000” live. Chosen by the participants as the official start line anthem, the song created an electric atmosphere as the runners embarked on their 10km journey, all while the sun emerged from the clouds.

Upon completing the race at Lower Baggot Street, each participant received a medal commemorating their achievement. The post-race celebration included sponsor experiences and giveaways, contributing to the festive atmosphere.

iDonate, the event’s official fundraising partner, reported that over €2 million has been raised through their platform, bringing the total raised by the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon to over €255 million since 1982.
