Lurgybrack National School is buzzing with excitement as a group of exceptionally talented students prepares to release their original song and music video!

The captivating track, “Kaleidoscope,” is the brainchild of the Lurgybrack NS songwriting club, nurtured with the guidance of accomplished Donegal musician, Brí Carr.

Matthew Finney, a dedicated sixth-class student, collaborated with Brí on the music composition, while students from second to sixth class contributed their creative ideas to craft the song’s meaningful lyrics.

This inspiring project was brought to life through generous funding from Creative Ireland and is a highlight of the school’s 2025 Cruinniú na nÓg initiative – a nationwide celebration scheduled for next Saturday, June 7th.

Get ready! “Kaleidoscope” is scheduled to be released on Friday, June 6th, perfectly timed for the national event, offering an engaging song and visual experience.

“The voice of the youth is at the heart of this song; every child contributed to create a piece that showcases the significance of embracing one’s true colors,” Brí Carr stated upon announcing the song’s impending release.

“Everyone is unique; their ‘color’ is beautiful, valuable, and essential. When these colors combine, they produce a kaleidoscope of rays, reflecting each child’s individuality and the strength of unity.”

“These students dedicated their lunch breaks and after-school hours on five separate afternoons to writing and refining their song. Recording the audio with Tommy Conway at Full Tilt Studios was a joy for everyone involved. The music video showcases the vibrancy of Lurgybrack School, Lurgybrack Open Farm – we are so lucky to be surrounded by so much color! – and even footage shot at home and during holidays, ensuring that all students could participate,” she added.

“I played keyboards on the track, while Matthew Finney contributed guitar and Jack Wethers played banjo. Our CD and PR photo were expertly produced by former pupil Dean Murray, a 2nd-year student at St Eunan’s College, and I, Brí Carr, mixed and produced the video.”

Adding to their accomplishment, the song has been submitted for consideration in the UK and Irish music charts – an outstanding opportunity for the gifted students of Lurgybrack to showcase their brilliance on a wider stage.
