A light aircraft has crashed into a residential building in western Germany, resulting in two fatalities, according to police reports. The incident occurred as the plane was approaching an airport.

The crash took place around midday on Saturday in Korschenbroich, a town near Monchengladbach and close to the border with the Netherlands.

The aircraft impacted the building’s terrace, causing a fire that significantly damaged the house.

Authorities confirmed that two individuals, including the 71-year-old female pilot, died in the crash, as reported by German news agency dpa.

Investigators are currently working to identify the second victim.

It has been determined that two of the three registered residents were not present at the time of the crash and have since contacted the police.

The pilot’s flight originated from Alkersleben, near Erfurt in eastern Germany, earlier on Saturday.

Her intended destination was the airport in Monchengladbach, located approximately two miles from the crash site. She had reported experiencing technical difficulties during the flight.
