Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
The injury will rule the 22-year-old out of the start of the Premier League season, with new manager Enzo Maresca unable to call upon him for their opening match against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on August 17th. Colwill sustained the ACL injury during a training session at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground.
Colwill’s absence might create an opportunity for Jorrel Hato, Chelsea’s recent acquisition from Ajax, to step up.
In a statement, Chelsea Football Club confirmed: “Defender Levi Colwill has today undergone successful surgery to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
