Record-breaking high temperatures were recorded at both of Donegal’s weather stations during the second week of July 2025.
The hottest day was Saturday, July 12th, when temperatures reached 29.6°C at Finner in south Donegal. This marked the highest temperature ever recorded at Finner in any month, surpassing all previous data collected over its 14-year history.
Malin Head, a station with a 70-year record, reached a pleasant 27.6°C, also on July 12th.
In addition to the heat, sunny Malin Head recorded the highest number of daily sunshine hours in the country, with 15.7 hours on the 12th. However, Ireland’s most northerly point also experienced July’s highest number of dull days (9), a figure shared with Casement Aerodrome in Co Dublin.
According to Met Éireann’s report for July 2025, it was the warmest month of the year thus far and the hottest July since 2021.
The high temperatures were attributed to the Azores high extending north over the country, bringing ample sunshine. This resulted in a heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 27 °C each day from Thursday, July 10th, to Sunday, July 13th.
This continues a trend of unusually warm weather, marking the fifth consecutive month with average temperatures ranking within the top nine in 126 years of recorded data.
