Gardaí have arrested two individuals in connection with the fatal assault of Vanessa O’Callaghan, a homeless woman in Cork, which occurred in December.

Vanessa O’Callaghan, 36, a mother of three from Coach Street, Middle Parish, and formerly of Blackpool, passed away in hospital following the assault on Patrick’s Street on December 1.

She was experiencing homelessness at the time of the incident.

On Wednesday evening, two suspects were taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

The individuals, a man and a woman both in their 30s, were detained at a Garda station in Cork.

They have since been released without any charges filed, and a file is being prepared for submission to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

According to a Garda spokesperson, the investigation remains active.
