Lifeguards and paramedics are being praised for their dedication in attempting to save a man who experienced difficulties off a Bundoran beach last week.

Tragically, Jock McDonald (69), a Donegal-Scottish punk musician, passed away on Saturday following the incident at the seaside resort.

The Bundoran RNLI, which assisted in the rescue operation, has acknowledged the collective efforts of everyone involved.

“Last Saturday, the Bundoran RNLI volunteer crew were alerted to a person in need of assistance. As always, we launched with the hope of a positive outcome,” a spokesperson for the lifeboat station stated.

“Sadly, we learned the following day of the passing of the individual we were called to help. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

“We commend the swift actions of the Donegal County Council lifeguards and thank Malin Head Coast Guard and the National Ambulance Service for their invaluable support during the callout.”

Mr. McDonald, the founder of the Bollock Brothers, was transported to Sligo University Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The lifeboat team quickly recovered both Mr. McDonald and two lifeguards, transporting them to the pier where they were met by the National Ambulance Service.
