BPerfect Cosmetics has temporarily halted sales of a new skincare cleanser from its ‘Annalivia’ collection, less than a week after its launch, due to customer complaints on social media.
Brendan McDowell, the founder and CEO of the beauty brand, announced on Instagram that sales of the cleanser, a collaboration with influencer Annalivia Hynds, had been paused.
The ‘BPerfect x Annalivia’ collection, a bespoke line Hynds designed to suit her busy lifestyle as a mother of three, launched on July 23rd.
Following the launch, customers eagerly purchased the TikTok star’s collection. However, excitement soon turned to concern as social media videos surfaced, alleging breakouts and rashes after using the products.
One TikTok user, who claimed to “never break out,” shared a video displaying a breakout they attributed to using the collection’s products.
Another user posted a photo of their girlfriend’s face, reportedly showing a “severe rash” that they stated required “immediate medical intervention.”
Online comments echoed these concerns, with some users describing sensations of their face feeling “on fire,” as well as dryness and soreness.
McDowell addressed these customer concerns and confirmed the sales pause of the cleanser, stating that a full investigation involving skincare experts and labs would be undertaken.
“I’ve seen the feedback online with some of the reactions to the new Annalivia skincare range and I want to address it directly,” he said on his Instagram stories on Monday.
“The rest of the range has received great feedback and the majority of customers have had no issues but we are not ignoring the few that have.
“Even though the cleanser has passed all the safety tests and meets industry standards, as a temporary precaution, we have paused all sales while we do a full investigation with our skincare experts and our labs.”
He emphasized the brand’s commitment to customer feedback and the importance of “getting this right.”
“We always recommend doing a patch test, guys, with all skin products as everybody’s skin is completely different. What works for one person will not always work for the next,” he said.
“We take everybody’s feedback really, really seriously and even though it’s a small number at the moment compared to what we have sold, we have taken action straight away.”
He encouraged affected customers to contact the BPerfect customer care team.
