A Donegal family is overjoyed to be back home in the hills with their youngest, Odhrán, after he spent his first months in hospital.
Odhrán McGinley, now 7 months old, was born eight weeks prematurely last December.
The son of Linda, originally from Rathdonnell, and Bernard McGinley, from Ballybofey, Odhrán was born with a serious congenital heart condition.
He bravely fought for months in Paediatric Intensive Care at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, undergoing several major surgeries and procedures, including significant open-heart surgery.
Yesterday, the Ronald McDonald House shared the wonderful news that Odhrán was returning home to Donegal with his parents and sisters, just in time for the All-Ireland.
The family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House for 160 nights while Odhrán gained strength for life outside the hospital.
“There’s no place like home,” the charity stated, wishing the family well. “It’s been a real pleasure having this brilliant family in the House; they’ll be sorely missed by staff and families alike.”
The family also received incredible local support, with thousands of euros raised through the ‘Little Odhrán’s Fight for Life fund’.
